On Thursday, December 30, 2010, the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office charged Deyvon Jamal Smith, 17 years of age, of the 1200 block of Mccasland, East Saint Louis, Illinois, with three counts of Burglary, a Class 2 felony; bond was set at $75,000.00.

The Collinsville Police Department, in conjunction with Metro East Auto Theft Task Force (MEATTF), developed information following Smith’s arrest on December 29, 2010 indicating that Smith and multiple, juvenile accomplices unlawfully entered numerous vehicles in Collinsville, both Madison County and St. Clair County, and stole money, portable electronics, and other random personal property, including personal identification.

To date, the Collinsville Police Department was able to clear 15 automobile burglaries, which includes the 9 automobile burglaries committed on December 26, 2010, at the Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah’s Witnesses.  The Collinsville Police Department is still reviewing recent automobile burglary reports in an effort to identify all of Smith’s victims.

The Collinsville Police Department is working closely with the MEATTF and deferring the investigation and any potential warrant application for the cases committed in St. Clair County to MEATTF, as the Collinsville Police Department has a detective assigned to the MEATTF.

The Collinsville Police Department appreciates the investigative efforts of the MEATTF and the efforts of all the cooperating agencies associated with this investigation.
