GRANITE CITY, Ill. (KMOX) – Emergency officials have confirmed that the 911 system in Madison County, Illinois is down.

This affects most areas of Madison County.

Madison County 911 Director, Terry McFarlane couldn’t offer any definitive information on what happened, but says they have received reports that a fiber optic cable was damaged.

Police are asking residents to find and use their City’s non-emergency number for police and fire until further notice.
