The City Council recently approved a change to our contract with Allied Waste/Republic Services.  Wheeled carts, with either a 65 or 95 gallon capacity, will replace the blue recycling bin at your home.

PLEASE NOTE - there is no price increase for automating the recycling.

Recycling will be picked up every other week once you begin using your new cart -- as a result, recycling routes WILL CHANGE; specific route information will be mailed to each residence around the end of September.

Trash pick-up is NOT being automated at this time and yard waste service remains the same, therefore there is NO CHANGE in your pick-up day(s) for these services.

Those getting a “senior rate” for trash service will receive a 65-gallon cart and all others will receive a 95-gallon cart; you will have the option to switch sizes after delivery is complete.

Once automated pick-up begins, Republic Services will not service the 18-gallon bins, they are yours to keep or you may place them inside your larger cart for recycling.

Republic Services expects to have carts delivered in early October, which will take about 7-10 days, with automated service beginning after delivery is complete.

•   There are benefits of Automated Collection; perhaps most important to you, is the enhanced service    delivery and increased recycling efforts.

•   The fixed lid, wheeled carts help reduce litter by preventing contents from blowing out and also help to prevent odors, animal scavenging, and health concerns.

•   Carts are easy to use and they hold many more recyclables than the original 18-gallon bins.

•   The carts will not create an expense to you - carts damaged due to normal wear and tear are replaced or repaired at no charge.

•   Every other week pick-up for recycling reduces the number of trucks on City streets. 

•   All communities in this area that have automated recycling collection have seen an increase of 30-80% in the amount of tons recycled.

•   Automated recycling collection provides residents with a convenient wheeled cart for recyclables, and makes it easier for residents to recycle more.

•   Higher diversion rates can help meet government mandates and makes for a “greener” community to live in.
