The City of Collinsville operates a water treatment plant located at 1800 St. Louis Road by a staff of six Class "A" Illinois State Licensed Water Treatment Plant Operators. The water plant was constructed and placed into operations in 1958. Due to the age and other factors of the water plant, there are plans to construct a new water treatment plant adjacent to the existing plant. Completion of the new plant is anticipated to be the summer of 2016. Maximum pumping capacity at the current plant is 5 million gallons per day, with an average daily demand of 2.3 million gallons per day. The water plant produced approximately 830 million gallons of safe, high quality drinking water in 2013. Raw water supplying the water plant is pumped from the American Bottoms Aquifer by a total of six wells. The water is softened, filtered and disinfected prior to being pumped to the distribution system.
A staff of nine full time employees is responsible for the maintenance of the water distribution system. Duties include everything from reading meters to repairing water main breaks to replacing entire water mains. The water distribution system is comprised of 180 miles of water main, 1,350 fire hydrants, 1,800 valves, approximately 11,700 service connections, two 500,000 gallon elevated storage tanks and a 1,000,000 ground storage tank and pump station.
The Collinsville Water Department staff is committed to the continuous flow of safe, quality drinking water and outstanding customer service to the citizens of the community.
