Collinsville Names Stephen Evans as New Police Chief

Collinsville, Illinois – November 15, 2013 – Effective November 27, 2013, Stephen Evans will assume all roles and responsibilities of Chief of Police for the City of Collinsville.  Evans brings over 25 years of public safety experience to the community, serving in the past as a Correctional Officer with the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department; School Resource Officer; Crime Free Housing Coordinator; Patrol Sergeant; Detective Sergeant; Division Commander with the Fairview Heights, Illinois Police Department; and Deputy Commander of the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis.

 

Evans has advanced training from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia; the Southern Police Institute in Louisville, Kentucky; as well as Command & General Staff from the Illinois Fire Service Institute.  He brings with him several degrees in Administration of Justice and Management Practice.  Throughout the course of his work, Evans has planned and developed many community based programs such as the Citizen’s Police Academy, Collegiate Apprenticeship Career Development Program; he served as the Volunteers in Policing Coordinator, and in Youth Initiatives.

 

Evans will oversee, direct, and plan all activities of the Police Department personnel in the City.  He will design and implement various law enforcement programs, goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and standards for the department.  It will be his responsibility to partake in the strategic planning covering use of resources, coordinating activities, and ensuring high quality service.  He will contribute to the development and implementation of projects and programs to maximize police services in coordination with the City Manager, the City Council, other City departments, and public and private organizations.

 

“We are looking forward to having Steve join the staff as Chief of Police”, stated City Manager Scott Williams.  “His two-plus decades in law enforcement will contribute tremendously to future initiatives the City seeks to accomplish in public safety.”

 

The Mission of the Collinsville Police Department is to protect lives and property, to maintain peace and order and to reduce crime through education, prevention, and proactive police service.
