E-Waste Recycling Law in the State of Illinois

Effective January 1, 2012 a new law in the state of Illinois banned several types of electronics from being dumped at a landfill.  The law establishes a statewide system for recycling and/or reusing computers, monitors, televisions, and printers discarded from residences by requiring electronic manufacturers to participate in the management of discarded and unwanted electronic products.

The following list of electronics is banned from landfills:

Televisions
Monitors
Printers
Computers (including tablet computers)
Electronic Keyboards
Facsimile Machines
Videocassette Recorders
Portable Digital Music Players
Digital Video Disc Players
Video Game Consoles
Small Scale Servers
Scanners
Electronic Mice
Digital Converter Boxes
Cable Receivers
Satellite Receivers
Digital Video Disc Recorders

Some of the companies will offer pick-up service, or offer a central drop-off site.  Phone the specific company for more information on how to dispose of your electronic waste; or contact your county or municipal government.

9-11 Memorial Stair Climb

~ Cahokia Mounds ~

Join us on the 11th of September at 5PM, Cahokia Mounds, for the 3rd annual Brevity Fitness 9-11 Memorial Stair Climb.  There is no fee or donation to participate.  It is simply about the experience of honoring the first responders who were among the 2,977 victims.  Simply show up and do your best or cheer someone on to do their best.

Sign-in starts at 5PM.  The climb begins at 6PM.  If you're a police officer or a firefighter, wear your gear for a more "intense" experience.  Everyone else can climb slick, wear a weighted vest, or carry your favorite Administrator.  Kids are welcome at this event too.  We've had them as young a 5 years old climbing and 6-months old being carried.  Age is nothing but a number.  One of our favorite City Employee participants was 62 at the time she stepped foot on those stairs and she completed the event!

We're attempting to keep track of  the turnout at the event.  If you are on Facebook please RSVP on the Brevity Fitness event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/273255216198035/.  You may also email Mary Ann Brown, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
